ConductExperience
EMA software for research
Run ecological momentary assessment studies in one place. Design check-ins, schedule prompts, enroll participants, watch adherence, and export the data.
What EMA measures
Ecological momentary assessment (EMA) asks people about their experience close to when it happens, in daily life, instead of asking them to remember it weeks later. Studies use it for mood, stress, pain, fatigue, cravings, sleep, and symptoms, because answers given in the moment depend less on memory.
Sampling designs
| Design | Also called | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed times | Interval-contingent | Check-ins at set local times, such as 8 AM and 8 PM. |
| Random times | Signal-contingent | A set number of prompts at random times in a window, with a minimum gap. |
| One per window | Stratified random | One random prompt inside each window you define. |
| Participant-started | Event-contingent | Participants open a check-in when an event happens. |
Mix designs in one study, for example a random daytime check-in plus an evening diary.
What participants do
- Join by QR code, link, or study code, then agree to the consent.
- Add the app to the home screen. On iPhone this is what turns on reminders.
- Get reminders by push notification or email, with quiet hours and one follow-up.
- Answer one question per screen, even offline. Answers sync when the phone reconnects.
What you get
- A builder for check-ins with 12 question types, branching, and scores.
- Preview on your own phone, then a pilot with your team.
- An adherence view by participant, with missed prompts and last response.
- Protocol versions that keep every change on record.
- Exports: long and wide CSV, a reminder log, adherence, and a data dictionary.
Pricing
Free for pilots and teaching. Researcher is $399 a year and Lab is $1,199 a year, with unlimited questions and check-ins.
